With only less than a month left before the release of the highly anticipated movie The Amazing Spider-Man, Emma Stone admitted that she was initially hesitant to take on the part of Gwen Stacy in the blockbuster franchise, but then eventually found strength through the words of another blockbuster newcomer, Jennifer Lawrence from Hunger Games.
“I love Jennifer Lawrence and I watched a lot of her interviews for Hunger Games. It was kind of the same thing she was feeling”, Stone said in an interview with Access Hollywood’s Scott Mantz, referencing Lawrence’s public trepidation over taking such a famous role.
The actress also said that what made her second guess was the fear of the unknown, saying, “What scared me was the idea of ‘What could happen to my life after doing something like this?’ But the part and the process outweighed that fear.”
When news broke that Emma was cast, everyone suspected her to play the role of Spidey’s well-known love interest, Mary Jane, because of her signature red hair. When asked about being cast as Gwen instead of Mary Jane, she said, “I love Mary Jane so much, so it kind of breaks my heart that I couldn’t be Mary Jane as well!”
The Amazing Spider-Man, which stars Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, and Emma Stone comes into theatres on July 3rd.
