Broadway’s Nina Arianda to Play Janis Jolin in Biopic

Nina Arianda, who won a Tony Award this year for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for Venus in Fur is tapped to play Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic.

Arianda has been active on Broadway as well as in movies, however this will be the first time she will take on the film lead. She will also sing in her own voice for the movie with production starting early next year. Produced by Peter Newman with Sean Dukin taking on the directorial duties, the independently produced film takes on the singer’s life for the last six months who died in 1970 of drug overdose.

Joplin gained rock star status as the singer of pysechedelic-acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company and was an iconic figure among the Woodstock generation.

The FredCast – The Internet’s Premier Cycling Podcast

Today in our featured podcast channel, we once again have something that’s sure to pique the interest of anyone who’s into cycling. We are going to take a quick look at David Bernstein’s program called ‘The FredCast’, a show that focuses on anything and everything that’s related to cycling.

The show’s length runs for about 45 to 60 minutes, and while it does state that it comes with a new episode every weekly – like with other podcasts – there have been times when it did miss its schedule. Anyway, the show offers its audience lots of cycling-related info such as news and event announcements with on-the-scene reporting, product reviews, and interviews with various cycling personalities.

Scarlett Johansson Spotted With Mystery Man On A Yacht

Usually, whenever the paparazzi takes photos of the sultry Scarlett Johansson it’s primarily to draw attention to her tantalizing body. But this time it’s a little bit different. This time, it wasn’t her curves that was drawing media attention but rather it was the tanned muscular fellow that was lying only a few inches from her.

The curvaceous young actress was spotted soaking up some Vitamin D with a man who’s now confirmed to be Marco, her bodyguard for two years, according to her rep. The photos show the Avengers star and her security lying on board a yacht with one of her personal assistants off the coast of the coast of Sicily in Italy.

But before some of you fellas start to get your hopes up thinking that you might still have a shot at Scarlett, I just have to inform you that she’s still dating New York advertising exec Nate Taylor.

Taylor Swift, Rihanna, No Doubt, Green Day to Headline iHeartRadio Festival 2012

The official lineup for the iHeartRadio 2012 Music Festival has finally been released with big names in pop, rap, rock, country, R&B and dance music topping the bill.

Hosted by American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, Clear Channel Media’s second annual music festival is set for Sept 21 and 22 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The event is a celebration for the success of the new iHeartRadio, which spawned 10 million registered users in just eight months, faster than other sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Artists set to perform include a good mix of genres that range from acoustic pop sensation Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Usher, ska-rockers No Doubt, Aerosmith, Green Day, Lil Wayne, Pitbull, country acts Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert, Pink, Mary J. Blige, Linkin Park and more. The set time of the festival has yet to be announced.

Ernest Borgnine Dies at 95

Dependable television, film and Broadway star Ernest Borgnine, who is known for villainous and heavy roles, has died last Sunday. The Oscar award-winning actor was 95.

According to his longtime spokesman, Borgnine died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was survived by his wife and children.

Borgnine first got noticed in the early 1950’s playing the role of Fatso Judson in From Here to Eternity. More villain roles followed but he showed his true colors as Marty Piletti in the low-budgeted film adaptation by Paddy Chayefsky’s television play Marty that also starred Rod Steiger. He won best actor at the Academy Awards and the film got three that included best picture.

In 2010, he was honored with a lifetime achievement award from Screen Actors Guild.

Jamie Chung To Play Mulan In ABCs ‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 2

It is confirmed. Jamie Chung will be playing the legendary Chinese warrior Mulan in the upcoming second season of ABC’s fairy-tale drama TV series Once Upon A Time this coming September.  The Asian character is expected to recur all throughout the second season although there’s no word yet as to how the show plan is planning to incorporate her role into the story.

As described in the poem Ballad of Mulan, Mulan takes her father’s place in the army, fighting for 12 years and refusing any reward despite her impressive record.

Joining Chung as one of new characters to be introduced into the fantasy world of Once is Irish actress Sarah Bolger who will be playing as Princess Aurora of Sleeping Beauty. Once Upon A Time airs every Sunday night at 8pm.

Concert movies may appeal to their diehard fans but for your average viewers, it’s simply not their cup of tea. Katy Perry’s film Part of Me is different though. It features Perry’s kooky style, and its intimacy is charming to the audience. It’s not just a concert experience but a backstage pass as well.

Katy Perry: Part of Me, which opens on July 5, marks the end of the pop star’s Teenage Dream cycle as her album’s release has made her one of the richest stars, ranking 4th in the net worth arena that raked in $44 million last year. She got five number 1 hits and has sold out 124 shows.

The fabulous singer is definitely at the prime of her career right now and is soon to capture another number 1 spot at the charts with her eighth single Wide Awake which was made specifically for the 3D film.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Earns Box Office Hit

The Amazing Spider-Man has earned an estimated $7.5 million on its Monday midnight showing. It got the second best-showing this summer behind The Avengers which grossed a whopping $18.7 million although got on par with Iron Man 2 for $7.5 million and gained identical figures with Spider-Man 3’s first weekend haul of May 2007.

“It’s a great handoff,” an insider from Sony said, after the film matched the midnight earnings of Spider-Man 3.

The reboot of the web-slinging superhero is off to a strong start at the box office and is expected to gross $27 million come 4th of July holiday.

Analysts predict it will dominate the box office until The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20.

Directed by Marc Webb, the reboot got rave reviews with some critics calling it the best Spider-Man movie yet.

A sequel to the movie has already been announced for a May 2014 release. Radio July 3 Episode
