In his recent interview with Digital Spy, Bobby Farrelly has practically revealed the whole plot to the long-gestating sequel to their 90′s movie hit Dumb and Dumber, which starred Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
The co-writer/co-director was quoted saying, “There is no growth out of either one of them and it’s 20 years later … The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”
Bobby also stated that they were hoping to start shooting this fall but it didn’t come to pass due to schedule conflicts between Carrey and Daniels. “Jeff has a successful TV show over here now so we have to work around that,” said Bobby, “That’s the plan and that will be our next movie, we’ve already written the script. We’re very anxious to get back in business with those two guys,” he added.
Personally, I’m glad to know about this development considering that the last report I heard was that Jim Carrey has decided to ditch the sequel because he was concerned that the studio wasn’t supporting it. If it’s true, I hope Jim reconsiders because let’s face it, he hasn’t really been in any good movies lately (hint: penguins). But did you also know that according to Collider, Universal was said to have been courting Carrey for Jeff Wadlow’s sequel to Kick-Ass? Now that’s something I’d also like to see. I hope he takes on both projects.
