The Office star Rashida Jones wants John Travolta to come out of the closet as an example to others. She expressed support for singer Frank Ocean who bravely came out last month while she was publicizing her movie Celeste and Jesse Forever.

Travolta's personal and sexual life have put him through the wringer in recent months. The Saturday Night Fever star, who has long been dogged by rumors about his sexuality, is facing numerous lawsuits from men, many of them masseurs, who claim he made inappropriate passes, financial offers and other attempts to secure sexual contact with them. He remained silent on the charges but several weeks ago, he denied one of the claims. Other Hollywood personalities like  Joan Rivers and Carrie Fisher, have been more than happy to sound off on the possibility that actor is gay.

Jones discusses the need for more openly gay actors with friend and Celeste And Jesse Forever co-writer Will McCormack:

McCormack: There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out.
Jones: And a movie star! It’s time.
McCormack: Yeah, like a big one.
Jones: A movie star?...Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let's do this. Big stars need to come out. Ricky Martin was huge. That was big. I was really happy about that... People are so precious about their careers."

Later she issued a public apology for sticking her nose in other people's personal lives.

Coming out has been a hot topic lately with Anderson Cooper, Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons and R&B singer Frank Ocean, and is paving the way for better support of the LGBT community.

One thing though -- do you think Rashida was right to out John Travolta, or was she out of bounds?
