Argo is a true storyabout the real-life rescue of six U.S. embassy workers during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. The film took the first place in its third week at the box office beating Cloud Atlas for the top spot. According to The Associated Press, this weekend the movie gained almost $12.4 million. These past two weeks the film had ranked second and now it has earned a total of $60.8 million.

The animated family movie Hotel Transylvania, featuring the voices of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez, has reached the second place from last week's number four position and grossed $9.5m. The film raised a total of $130.4 million. The star-studded drama epic Cloud Atlas which is based on a 2004 David Mitchell’s book, got the third place over the weekend earning $9.4 million.

Paranormal Activity 4 has earned $42.6 million in its second week and debuted in the No. 3 spot with a total of $8.7 million, while Silent Hill: Revelation 3-D and Taken 2 tied for fifth place earning $8 million each.
