Taking the number one spot on the Christmas Day box office is Les Miserables. The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical, starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe.

Thanks to positive reviews from movie scribes, it drew the attention of moviegoers and raked in an estimated $17.5 million, surpassing expectations from the studio which was $10+M for its debut release.

Grabbing the second spot is Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which got a projected $14 million, marking a top opening for an R-rated film.

In the third spot is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is on its second week. Placing fourth is Parental Guidance starring Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei which got $6.5 million, while Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher finishes at top five with $4.9 million.
