Stuff You Should Know Podcast

There’s a saying that “curiosity kills the cat” but that only holds true in cases where you shouldn’t be sticking your nose in places where it shouldn’t. The same cannot be said as long as you’re listening to Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant of Stuff You Should Know podcast though. With these guys, the proverbial cat would end up growing fat instead because of all the interesting topics the show covers on each and every episode (that is, of course, if you’ll equate knowledge with that of food but I digress).

Stuff You Should Know (SYSK) is an audio podcast from that tackles and answers a wide array of “odd questions”; from the seemingly trivial (e.g. redheads, zombies) to the very insightful (e.g. metric system, nicotine). Heck, some might even actually end up helping someone with their homework or term paper. It’s definitely a podcast for those with a curious mind.

The show grew so popular over time that it even earned itself its own series on the Science Channel owned by Discovery Network, which is set to premiere on January 19 at 10PM ET/PT.

Grabbing the second spot is Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which got a projected $14 million, marking a top opening for an R-rated film.

Gun Advocates Petition To Deport Piers Morgan Reaches 60,000+

It is now quite apparent that CNN host Piers Morgan has struck a nerve with a huge number of gun advocates in the United States for being outspoken about his stance on gun control… perhaps too outspoken that about 65,000 Americans have already signed a petition for the government to send him back to the United Kingdom.

The online petition, which can be found over at the White House website, was started in Texas (surprise surprise) on December 21 after Morgan’s interview with Gun Owners of America director, Larry Pratt.

The petition accuses the British talkshow host and former Daily Mirror editor of being “engaged in a hostile attack” against the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees the rights to bear arms.

It states, “We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

Morgan seems unfazed by the movement, however, as he expresses his sentiments (i.e. amusement) for it in a series of tweets.

What is your take on the issue? Do you think Morgan should be deported, or is the petition an overreaction to his stance, and why? Post it on the comments section below.

Award-Winning Actor Charles Durning Passes Away at the Age of 89

Award-winning actor Charles Durning, whose work in movies and televisions includes supporting roles in the classic comedy Tootsie and the TV sitcom Evening Shade, had passed away last December 24 at the age of 89.

According to his longtime friend and agent Judith Moss, he died of natural causes.

Durning survived poverty and WWII to become an established character actor in Hollywood. "I was born a character actor," he spoke of his role as Big Daddy in a Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. "I was born looking older — and I've been aging since I was a teenager."

The actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2008 and said, "I never turned down anything and never argued with any producer or director”.

In a 1994 interview with Washington Post, Durning said, “I’d like to have a decade of my life back. I dropped into a void for almost a decade. It’s your mind that’s hard to heal. There are many horrifying secrets in the depths of our souls that we don’t want anyone to know about.”

Durning also pledged to never stop working. "They're going to carry me out, if I go," he said.  However, beyond his numerous achievements, Durning had a fear of being invisible.

The versatile actor once said that he was "driven by fear - the fear of not being recognized by your peers".

He is survived by his children, Michele, Douglas and Jeannine. His family will hold a private family service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Santa Claus Grants Little Boy’s Wish

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Santa Claus has given a child the best Christmas gift ever. First-grader Khamory Gipson’s Christmas wish was to have a chance to feel his dad’s presence for the holidays. His dad, 1st Lt. Shamory Gipson was in military training during the last six months in Hawaii.

“I miss my daddy in Hawaii. Santa I want my dad to come home,” Khamory told Santa Claus.

To the child’s astonishment, his father stepped out to meet him for a surprise homecoming.

His dad said, “He was shocked and he was like, Is that him? Or another Skype? He didn't know what to believe, how to react. But we'll have a lot of fun the rest of the time I am here.”

The little boy was asked if it was the greatest gift he could have received. He simply said, “Yes.”

Father and son were promptly joined by Khamory's mother, Kimberly Gipson. "A lot of mixed emotions. It’s a lot. My biggest thing was for the boys and especially Khamory because him and his dad are so close," she said.

Next year Lt. Shamory Gipson will be deployed to Afghanistan, so the family will be making the most of this holiday season together. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Lt. Gipson simply replied, “My family. That’s it. Nothing else.”

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hoax: Viral Video of Eagle Snatching a Baby

Recently, a video of a golden eagle capturing a toddler in a park has gone viral on the internet. But its creators have come out and admitted that it was a hoax.

The video's clipmakers shot the video using CGI effects as part of their school project to test their skills. They were just as surprised as their viewers when the video reached global popularity.

Now if that's just a school project then wait until they become professionals. This will be an awesome thing to look forward to as this video alone garnered 17 million views on Youtube in three days!

Watch the students' explanation on how they made this amazingly realistic video.

Viral Video: FedEx Drops Package Then UPS Guy Steals It

We got a new viral video on our hands, and it’s all because a UPS guy’s got an iPad mini on his! OK, lame opening but there’s new video circulating the web again and guess what? It’s related to the holiday season.

A father decided to get his daughter an iPad mini for Christmas and had it delivered by FedEx at his house.

Unfortunately, hours after the package was left on the porch (a pre-signed delivery form was signed allowing the package to be left at the front door), a UPS guy who also happened to have a package delivered to the same resident decided to come back and take the FedEx package two minutes after dropping off his own package.

The video got lots of hits on Reddit and is currently at the top as of this writing. A link to the video was initially uploaded on Vimeo but got removed just a few hours later. The reason for this is unknown but here are couple of YouTube videos for you. Better hurry before they also get taken down!

The UPS grinch who stole someone’s Christmas. Sigh. This rivalry between FedEx and UPS has gone too far already, and at the expense of a father’s Christmas present to his daughter.
