With the success of AMC’s critically acclaimed hit TV series Breaking Bad coming to a close this summer, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that both the network and the series producer Sony TV are now planning to keep its beloved franchise alive by creating a spin-off. The man who’ll be at the center of it all is none other than the sleazy but nevertheless brilliant criminal lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odinkirk.

The idea has actually been floating around for awhile as creator Vince Gilligan once mentioned it albeit hypothetically back in July of 2012, saying, “I would love to see a Saul Goodman spin-off. I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun – I would like that.”

Things are still in its early stages so no deals are yet in place. Although reports point that Gilligan and series writer-producer Peter Gould, who created the Odinkirk’s character, will be the ones at the helm. The project is also rumored to likely be leaning on the comedic side of things if it gets the green light. This too, is only to be expected as Saul after all, served as the TV series’ comic relief.
