Disney has just released a new clip online that gives us a sneak peek to their new and upcoming animated film titled Planes, which is sort of a spin-off to Pixar’s Cars back in 2006. The preview shows Bravo and Echo, a couple of jetfighters (F/A-18E/F Super Hornets to be precise, for all you plane aficionados out there) played by Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards respectively, flying above the clouds until they are suddenly interrupted by the main protagonist of the film named Dusty Crophopper played by Dane Cook, a big-hearted and fast-flying crop duster who dreams of competing in the most exhilarating around-the-world air race in history.

Planes was originally intended to be released as a direct-to-video on DVD and Blu-ray this spring but it was then pushed to Fall (August 9). It was also confirmed that in Europe, the movie will be released in theaters like in some markets in North America. That is according to an interview with Disney’s EMEA VP of toys and stationery Anna Chapman by Toynews-online.

John Lasseter, who directed Cars and Cars 2, will be one of the producers of the film. Also, only this time it’s under DisneyToon Studios instead of Pixar.
