Warner Bros. has announced on Thursday that they have found the guy to reprise the role of Batman and he’s no other than Ben Affleck. This ended weeks of speculation on candidates such as Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling. But is the former Daredevil star an apt choice for the caped crusader?
The actor, who also directed the Grammy award-winning Argo, will join Henry Cavill for the Man of Steel sequel which is slated for a July 17, 2015 worldwide release. Batman Vs. Superman, the rumored possible title of the new movie, will not be the first time Affleck wore a costume for a superhero film. In 2003, he played the blind super-powered lawyer Matt Murdock aka Daredevil.
Director Zack Snyder is reported to be excited to work with the actor. Snyder released a statement saying, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him.”
Shortly after the announcement has been made public, fans reacted immediately via Twitter. We can’t exactly blame them as Daredevil didn’t become a big hit and some of Affleck’s films were flops.
However, Argo's success brought his career back to the top, and Heath Ledger wasn't exactly well-received when it was first leaked that he would play the Joker. So let’s give Affleck a chance.
What can you say about the news of Affleck as the new Batman?
