Earlier this month, Gamespot asked fans to nominate the best video games for their 2013 Game Of The Year award, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag nabbed the top spot for PlayStation 4.

Aside from its open-world exploration and quests that center on hunting, crafting, and hand-to-hand single and melee combat, its likeable protagonist Edward Kenway and dynamic storytelling make Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag a definite improvement over the previous AC installments. There are also several cinematic moments that aren’t confined to cutscenes, but included in the gameplay itself, plus the supporting cast is also well-fleshed out.

This is why it’s no surprise that the game has made it to the top of the fan favorites — and not just for PlayStation 4, but for Xbox One as well.

Also-rans for the PS4 list are Battlefield 4, Resogun, NBA 2K14, and FIFA 14. Other 2013 GOTY awardees are:
