“Working on PlanetSide 2 has been the absolute highlight of my career, but after four years working on the game, it’s time for a change,” he wrote. “This is a move I’ve been considering for a while now, and the reorganization provided the right opportunity for me to exit.
“PlanetSide 2 is in great hands, with terrific people who honestly care about the game and the players. I can’t stress this enough, the folks working on every aspect of the game, developers, marketing, community are talented, hard working people who care more than you can imagine – I’m fully confident they’re going to do an amazing job on the next leg of the journey.”
MMO producer David Carey also left the company, stating on a sub-reddit saying that it "deserves no hate in all this." He also added “They are more like white knights than negative forces here. If you guys feel angry or betrayed, it would be misdirected to place that at the feet of the new company.
“They didn’t bring in new staff to replace us, or say we did a shitty job and treat us poorly – they looked at the bottom line and the numbers just didn’t line up.”
There are also a number of staff members were laid off from Daybreak starting also with EverQuest franchise boss David Georgeson and its lead content designer Steve Danuser. Both were let go along with their respective staff in San Diego and Austin Studios.
