Heads up, Nintendo fans! The classic Nintendo World Championships will back in full force and will be held at the E3 2015, to be on live stream on Sunday, June 14.
According to the Nintendo site, "For the first time in 25 years, some of Nintendo's biggest fans will get to go head-to-head in a gaming showdown for the ages. Join a worldwide audience by watching the live stream on Sunday, June 14."
Nintendo of America's President and Chief Operating Office Reggie Fils-Aime has spilled the beans on the upcoming Nintendo World Championships saying, "Whether you're tuning in online or joining us at the show, we want to include fans of all ages this E3 with an innovative and nostalgic focus on fun. I'm especially eager to bring back the Nintendo World Championships and to crown the 2015 Nintendo World Champion."
The qualifying rounds for the Nintendo World Championships will be held on May 30 at Best Buy Locations in major cities around the country. Each winner from the regional events, plus competitors invited by Nintendo will meet at E3 on June 14 at Nokia Theatre L.A., where the multi-round Nintendo game competition will be held.
The last Nintendo World Championships were held as a 3-day event in Dallas, Texas on March 8, 1990, where they also featured the classic movie The Wizard. The movie depicted a number of classic NES games such as Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer, and Tetris.
In the World Championships, you just need to beat your opponent's high score but under limited time. The winner of the game was awarded with a copy of the Nintendo World Championship NES Gold cartridge and a gray cartridge with the same 3 games that were played in the tournament itself. The winner also received $10,000, a 40-inch rear projection TV, and a classic 90's Geo Metro Convertible car.
Who knows what prizes Nintendo will give away this year? Stay tuned for more!
