If you’re keeping up with what’s the latest in Hollywood movies then you should know by now that Jim Carrey’s gonna be appearing in the upcoming sequel to the superhero action comedy Kick-Ass. The film features a lot of intense action sequences much like its predecessor, which Carrey now announced he doesn’t support. On Sunday, he tweeted:
I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to e
Carrey, who’s known for being an outspoken advocate of stricter gun control, plays the role of a baseball bat-wielding masked vigilante known as Colonel Stars and Stripes, an ex-mafia who decided to form a team of costumed vigilantes with his brother after finding religion. Quite ironically, one trait that attracted Carry to the character in the first place was his refusal to fire a gun, said Mark Millar, writer and creator of the film’s comic book source.
Millar also wrote an entry in his website urging Carrey to reconsider his position and at the same time not letting him off the hook for shying away from the promotion by pointing out that he (Carrey) knew what he was getting into by signing up for the script.
Was it wrong for Jim Carrey to be throwing his movie under the bus just because it goes against what he believes in? I don’t think so. While his action can have a negative effect to the movie, he still is entitled to have his opinion. If he suddenly feels like he’s contributing to society in a negative way because of the movie then he has every right to express it just as any production company can have every right to decide not to hire him because of what he said about this movie.
Peter Warman, CEO of research firm Newzoo, said, “Will there be a next generation in about eight years? It won’t be in the shape and form we know today with consoles. It could be something you plug into TV and gives you access to all the stuff. You might want an Xbox dongle for exclusive IP that works with other screens. I don’t think it will be a box like we have now.”

The article goes on to say that one of the contributing factors for the consoles’ impending decrease in market share is the increase in mobile gaming, pointing to the speed at which tablets are advancing and the lowering prices. A study by IDC and App Annie shows that spending in mobile games has grown three times, thereby causing more developers to create games that connect devices such as the tablet to the consoles.
One problem with these analysts’ foresight, however, is that they interpret the increase in mobile games’ market share as the departure of users from their consoles to their tablets and other mobile devices, which is inaccurate. The increase will more likely be due to more people playing games than simply current gamers migrating. And even if there will be any migration from console to mobile, it would be that of casual gamers [who play app or Facebook games] who are just looking to pass time than serious gamers.
Moreover, if there is be any reason why the reign of the consoles would end right now with the arrival of the Xbox One and Playstation 4, it won’t be because it has finally ran out of features to offer the gamer but rather because of what it actually offers.
Take Xbox One’s current status with the gamers after it clarified a few questions about internet connectivity and game restrictions (i.e. DRM), for example (Microsoft Underwhelms Gamers With Latest Xbox One News). That said, if Sony follows Microsoft’s example, then yeah, it would be the end of consoles indeed BUT for an entirely different reason and not because of what the analysts above have claimed.
Move over Lindsay Lohan, because here’s the latest news trendsetter that people would forget about your mischievous acts. The Amanda Bynes’ saga continues and her drama has gone to bizarre lengths.
After getting arrested by NYPD authorities for allegedly throwing a marijuana bong out of the window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment, Bynes has reacted that the cops illegally entered her apartment and that the arresting officer sexually assaulted her.
The 27-year old former child star wrote on her Twitter claiming the latter’s incident and she’s telling her 1.34 million followers that she’s going to sue the police department for it. She even blurted that she only smokes tobacco, doesn't drink and smoke marijuana and “believe everything she says on twitter.”
So what’s next? The New York Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau has made an internal investigation to her claim that she was sexually harassed by two officers.
I feel sorry for Bynes because she is one of those actresses with plenty of potential talent and many believed she would make it to superstardom. Unfortunately, fame might have gotten to her, and instead she went on a different route that has destroyed her image.
When you talk about hottest women in Hollywood, it’s definitely the most appealing topic to men as well as teens. Creating a list is such a difficult task as there are a lot to choose from, to newly introduced actresses to the more popular A-listers. Here is a list of 5 who has been active in 2013.
5. Megan Fox
The former Transformers actress has captured the fascination of most men. Her charming approach and beauty just made everyone mesmerized. She’s one of the most in-demand actresses around, appearing in magazines like FHM as well clothing ads.
4. Penelope Cruz
This Latina beauty has this innocent charm that made her one of the most successful actresses. Her career was already good but started to skyrocket furthermore after the huge success of Pirates of the Caribbean.
3. Jessica Alba
One of the most prominent names in Hollywood, Jessica has appeared in various films and holds the ‘Pretty girl of Hollywood’ title.
2. Bar Refaeli
Bar Refaeli has made a name after appearing in different advertisements, front cover in magazines and other modeling stints and it got the attention of Hollywood A-lister actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
1. Olivia Wilde
Olivia has this sizzling beauty that captures every guy’s dream girl. She has appeared in different television and film productions that include The O.C. House, Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
The much-anticipated sequel of one of the most beloved sci-fi series has hit it off with a new villain and more action-packed scenes. Star Trek Into Darkness probably is one of the summer’s biggest films to watch and should satisfy the fans out there.
The plot features the Enterprise team pitting up against an intergalactic terrorist who has waged war for mysterious reasons. The actors who played James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto) did pretty well at reincarnating the characters popularized by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy so this is very much like the old Star Trek in this respect.
Compared to the classic Star Trek shows, this one has more violence and action scenes, resulting in one enjoyable ride.
Does it disappoint? Well for someone who is a big fan and wanted to see some changes, it might, but if you’re like me who’s not a Trekkie, you’ll be fascinated.
[Editor's note: When Benedict Cumberbatch launched into his villainous monologue, all the women in the audience simultaneously got pregnant. That scene alone is worth it. - Carmela]
Now I’m fairly certain that a lot of you have already just had about enough of vampire movies, and I won’t blame you (rather I blame the hype the media that the genre got all because of one particular movie/franchise), but just allow me to present to you this short list of our favorite widescreen nocturnal bloodsuckers that I think you ought to check out just in case you still haven’t.
I initially thought about naming this list ‘The 5 Best Vampire Movies’ but I thought that I’m only gonna open myself up to a slew of violent reactions (*cough* Twi-hards *cough*) so I decided that I’ll just use the word ‘Recommended’ instead. Anyway, let’s start.
Interview with the Vampire: Vampire Chronicles – If you were born in the 80s (c’mon, don’t be ashamed of your age) then chances are you’d name this one as the best vampire movie of your generation. Dare I even go as far as to say that this is probably the Twilight of your – fine, our – generation because of the fact that the main cast – just like Twilight – is made up of a couple of actors whose names make the girls go screaming.
Thirst (Bakjwi) – This second one happens to be a personal favorite of mine. It’s from Korea and is directed by acclaimed director Chan-wook Park, the guy who also directed Oldboy, which is a movie that Spike Lee is now trying to remake. It’s a story about a priest who got infected with vampirism and how his peaceful life as a bloodsucker was turned upside down after he turned a woman into a vampire like him. The movie starts off slow as it tells you how the protagonist became a vampire but things pick up soon enough, eventually once he meets the female lead. (Turn on ‘annotations’ to activate subtitles).
Let the Right One In – You probably already heard of this one (or even seen it) after it was remade for US audience by Matt Reeves and renamed as Let Me In, which stars Chloe Moretz. I personally recommend that you watch the original Swedish film over the US version.
Dracula – I don’t know how anyone could even make a list of vampire movies without including this one, especially since it tells the story about the father of all vampires, the man who inspired Bram Stoker to write his famous 1897 novel – Vlad the Impaler, or more popularly known as Count Dracula.
Nosferatu – It may sound clichéd but nothing beats the original. A lot of young moviegoers would have a hard time trying to grasp why this is considered as a cinematic masterpiece, but that surely isn’t enough to take the title away from Nosferatu as the best vampire movie ever created.
Two titles that didn’t make the list but certainly deserve special mention are Fright Night and Dracula .
A new viral video is once again making its way across the internet, but this time, this one’s got an important message to say to its viewers. The message is about bullying, and what sets this apart from other anti-bullying campaign videos is how the subject is being delivered.
The video contains a beautiful animation that explores what life is like being bullied whilst coping with depression and abuse. It is a compilation of work done by different animators and artists who brought each of their own unique styles in 20-second segments that threads into Shane Koyczan’s voice as he reads the lines to his poem entitled To This Day.
The video is said to be a part of Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying awareness day in Vancouver that takes place on February 27.
The poem also resulted to the creation of the To This Day Project, a project which seeks “to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.”
The video, which was uploaded in YouTube, already managed to garner more than 1 million views in just 2 days and no doubt that the count will keep on climbing because of how it affects a whole lot of people.
This video is just way too good not to be shared, so pass it around and enjoy.
After TMZposted photos of Justin Bieber smoking marijuana, some members at 4chan.org decided to take this news to a new low by tweeting fake photos depicting self-mutilation as an online protest against the singer’s actions.
”Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because Bieber was smoking weed,” one post on the site said. "See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves."
Unfortunately, real Bieber fans have taken this seriously, and now a slew of Beliebers have flooded Twitter with their own bloody photos, or at least tweets about themselves cutting.
Newsflash, Bieber fans: YOU'VE BEEN TROLLED. Now put that bread knife down.
The hashtags #Cut4Bieber, #CuttingForBieber, and #CutForBieber are trending on Twitter and 4chan users who are involved in this so-called 'movement' are now congratulating themselves for their efforts in driving another nail into the Beliebers' collective coffin.
The prank has also sparked outrage from those who actually struggle with self-mutilation and their supporters.
#cutforbieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful.
This trolling prank is just another cruel and attention-hungry version of cyberbullying taken into extremes. Pop stars like Justin Bieber have fans as young as grade schoolers and this kind of activity takes advantage of their vulnerability. It's potentially life-threatening and may scar them for life. Also, it diminishes the concern for and perpetuates ridicule against the problems associated with self-harm.
While Bieber fans and their ilk can be brought into question for their blind devotion to their idols, the same can be said for those who irresponsibly engage in cyberbullying en masse, as exemplified by those who started this campaign.
In the end it's just a herd vs. herd war, another exercise in human extinction. In this case, it's not the strongest and smartest who prevail, but the assholes.
Parents, this is not about Justin Bieber smoking marijuana. Watch what influences your children, especially on social media.
This whole #cutforbieber thing needs to stop. It's not something to joke about. Another prime example that humanity has no hope.
