Episode 137: Losing Other People's Religion....

2013-06-08
Length: 41s

The Spoken Word segment is back and leads off the show!  I read the Blackfoot Tale "The Dog and the Stick" from George Bird Grinnell's "Blackfoot Lodge Tales:  The Story of a Prairie People".  I'm really into the Blackfoot Indians...so I wanted to share a little something.

Following that is the musical feature for the show - Emerald Rose's "Hills of America" -- which I thought to be a little fitting considering that I will be heading into the northern Rockies in about a week.

The topic...well...ya'll know how much I change things as time goes forward.  This week's topic changed on the fly.  I've been reading a lot of blogs lately -- and was seeing a trend in those posts.  So, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about it.  I know that a lot of folks think the Pagan Community is going through a particular moment of maturation...and this is essentially my thoughts on part of that process.

I also talk a bit about the upcoming Pagan Pride Day here in DFW (YES!).  October 5th out at White Rock Lake!  The following fundraiser information was copied directly from the DFW Pagan Pride Day site at http://dfwpaganpride.org/ .  They can also be found on FaceBook at:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/DFW-Pagan-Pride-Day-2013/336208563137750

Episode 136: Thoughts on a Pagan Community/DFW Pagan Pride Day 2013

2013-05-10
Length: 33s

I’m back!  Bet ya’ll thought I was dead!!  ;)~

-----

On this show, I talk about my perception and ideals for a Pagan Community.  I know that I’m just a single individual - and that my perceptions may be at odds with what other people may perceive of a Pagan Community…but I thought I would go ahead and toss this out there as my own personal opinion.

There is no Spoken Word segment in this show, because I plan on a much longer Spoken Word segment in the next episode.  I will be doing a reading of a Blackfoot Tale.

I didn’t remember to mention this during the show - but I wanted to thank John Beckett (his Patheos blog “Under the Ancient Oaks” can be found at:  http://www.patheos.com/blogs/johnbeckett/ ) for showing me through his posts what a community oriented individual should be like.  He’s quite the selfless leader - and I honestly believe he needs to be recognized for the hard work he puts into adding his vision to our collective voices.

Episode 135 - Let There Be Peace Throughout the Entire World

2013-01-25
Length: 49s

Short opinions and perspective on various topics.

The Celtic Myth Podshow can be found at http://www.celticmythpodshow.com

08:20-38:10: Topic Segment - Let There Be Peace Throughout the Entire World
In the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids (http://www.druidry.org), there is mention that Druids are looked upon as peace-makers. In fact, parts of the ritual ceremonies utilize the phrasing "let there be peace throughout the entire world". Over the past few years, I've noticed a trend towards the desire to be offended at the smallest slight. I first noticed it in the world of politics, and slowly, I've started to notice it within the Pagan community. I, for one, desire a world of peace - and while it may be overly idealistic and somewhat "hippy" of me (a term I wholeheartedly embrace) - I'm seeking that peaceful revolution - where we can talk with one another about our differences, accept that we all think differently as individuals - and walk away without being offended or angered over those differences. I've always heard that a revolution starts with a single individual - here I am.

38:52-41:33: The Spoken Word
I've always been a huge fan of William Blake's writings. So for this segment of The Spoken Word, I chose "A Dream" by William Blake.

41:33-42:31: The Secrets in Plain Sight! Promo

42:31-48:46: Musical Feature
Eli Goldberg of Prometheus music graciously provided me with the late-Cynthia McQuillin's album "The Witches' Dance" to feature on a show. I'm glad to be able to do so here. I choose the song "Re-enchantment." I also want to thank Margaret Davis and Kristoph Klover, the producer's of the album, for also providing permission to use the music for this show. Prometheus Music can be found at http://www.prometheus-music.com/ Be sure to support your Pagan musicians!!  *edit*  Eli just told me that I have this slightly incorrect - the publisher for the album is Shadowsinger Records, located at http://www.flowinglass.com/shadow.html - which is where you can find Cynthia's music for purchase.  My apologies to everyone for getting this wrong!!  :)

Yeah, its been a little while.  I talk a bit about the big outdoors and how it plays into my own personal belief system.  There's a ton of information in the very beginning of the show, including an upcoming show by Sharon Knight (along with my confessed ignorance of who she is) at Denton UU Fellowship.  Musical feature is the AWESOME Susan Garlick (of Dragonfly Moon) with the title cut from her album "The Ragged Crows".

Episode 130: Over the Edge and Into the Community

2012-05-21
Length: 49s

On this episode, I discuss my desire to enter into the fray known as "event organizing" -- specifically the DFW Pagan Pride Day event.  Since I've seen nothing and heard nothing about this year's event, I've decided to look into the possibility of putting some kind of an event together - even if its just a picnic where people can get together, talk and enjoy an afternoon.  I'm hoping that my desire to step forward - even with the lousy skills I have as an organizer - will inspire others to step forward with me.

---

I also talk a bit about the political spectrum, and why I don't pay much attention to it - along with some perspective on the podcast itself, and some information on a new direction that the podcast will hopefully move towards.

Episode 129: Choosing to Be an Individual

2012-04-20
Length: 50s

For today's podcast, I wanted to talk about why I don't like debating the concept of what is or isn't Paganism.  I start off the show with a rant on politics, particularly on why I feel its not right to determine a person's "patriotism" in relation to their desire to participate (or not) in the election process.

2012-02-03
Length: 35s

Welcome to 2012...I'm a little late to the party though.  :)

In this particular episode, I talk about how Magick permeates every single moment of Life (at least from my perspective).  Prior to that, I answer one of a flurry of Emails I have received over the past few months concerning the upcoming American Presidential election.  I also discuss my pleasure at the rising number of Pagan podcasts in the Podosphere, as well as my perspective on why this is a great things for the Pagan community as a whole.

Musical feature is Wendy Rule's song "Radiate" from her live album "Live at the Castle on the Hill".  Wendy's music can be found through her website at http://www.wendyrule.com .  Remember to support independent Pagan artists by purchasing their music!!

Episode 127: Transitions

2011-12-08
Length: 32s

In this episode, I spend a little time talking about the transitions that take place in the cycle of birth-death-rebirth.  Death is not a place of ending nor is it a place of beginning - it is a place of transition.  Where change takes on a personal form, not just for those passing beyond the veil, but also for those who remain here.  Musical feature is "Wolf Song" by Omnia.

---

The next podcast, which was already recorded for this particular episode, will be out on December 15th and focus on Equinoxes, Solstices, and the Wheel of the Year.  I will also include some observations I have concerning the "war on Christmas".

Episode 126: Under My (Black) Thumb

2011-10-24
Length: 39s

In this episode, I talk a bit about the first time I used an Apple computer...and remember one of my heroes a bit (Steve Jobs).  This show's topic is on gardening.  I touch a bit on the entire aspect of legal issues concerning medicinal plants.  Granted, my understanding of this is somewhat limited - and I point that out during that part of the topic.  I also talk about my last two years of trying to grow jalapeno plants -- and the fact that I seem to be the Dr. Jack Kevorkian of the plant world.  ;)  I also discuss how I've tried to incorporate some of my gardening into the ritual part of my life and how that has fared.

Musical feature is "Speak to Me" by Dallas-based Celtic-Rock band, The Killdares!!  Everytime I go to the State Fair of Texas, I MAKE time to see this great band live!!  Support your independent musicians and purchase their music, so they can make more great stuff!!  You can find the Killdares music for sale at http://www.killdares.com.  :)

Episode 125: More of an Update

2011-09-10
Length: 27s

Didn't really have much of a topic for the show.  So I spend a little time talking about the trip to Colorado, a little on the "Dominionist" BS that's been floating around on the 'net.  I also talk for a bit on my poor Cincinnati Reds now that the major league season is coming to a close.  Like I said -- I didn't have much in the way of a topic - so the show functions more of an update on how things are going at the moment.  Plus, I already have a lot of the recording done for the next show -- which I plan to have out in about two weeks, so I can put the show back on its regular schedule as I had originally planned.

Episode 124: Positively Positive

2011-08-08
Length: 46s

For this month's show, I talk about the power of thinking positive as it relates to magick, ritual and (most importantly) life in general.  I talk a bit about the news of the day - and place my own personal perspective on each topic (everyone's mileage will vary).  For the spoken word segment, I pull another of my own pieces of work:  "The Journey:  My Path" which I wrote back in 2006 during a much less positive period in my life.  Its interesting to read that and reflect where I am today.  The musical selection is "The Water" by Wendy Rule from her phenomenal album "The Lotus Eaters" -- I picked this song as a hopefully rain dance of sorts for the current drought conditions here in Texas.

Episode 121: Follow Your Inspiration, Follow Your Passion

2011-04-15
Length: 38s

In this episode, I talk a bit about how following your inspiration and passion can bring you to interesting and exciting places.  I never dreamed I would be a teacher - though I've always had aspirations of doing just that since I was fifteen years old.  Now that I'm actually teaching college classes, I'm finding a certain excitement creeping back into my life as I watch my students comprehend the material and put all of it together into their own vision of how the material can be incorporated into their own careers.  The same can hold true within one's own spritual experiences as well.  You don't have to teach correspondences or herb lore, or even ritual nuances to be a teacher.  Just showing others how you got to where you are can make just as big of an impact on helping others approach their own understanding of their Path.

Episode 119: Poetry in Motion

2011-02-26
Length: 39s

As many of you know, I write my own poetry and read quite a bit of it as well.  This particular art-form also colors my own perception of the world around me.  In this podcast episode, I talk a bit about how poetry provides a handhold of sorts in my everyday spiritual walk.  My musical feature for the show is the incredible Paul C. Newman, whose album “Passing Fayre” is one of the most lyrically stunning works I have heard in years!  In my opinion, this is an album you should purchase as soon as possible, and place into heavy rotation in whatever music player you utilize!  Hope you enjoy the show!  Slainte!

Episode 118: Re-Energizing Your Personal Rituals

2011-01-29
Length: 42s

Welcome to a new year!! In this first show, I talk a bit about why so long between the last show and this first one for the year.  Then, we dive into the topic at hand -- re-energizing your own personal rituals.  I use the example of my own daily ritual that comes through my walking and how I go about keeping it from becoming a mechanical process.  The musical feature for the show is Emerlad Rose's "The Hills of America".  If you like the music, be sure to buy it at the link listed below!  Support your favorite artists!!  Finally, the return of the Spoken Word segment as well.  I read my own poem:  "Of Cotton-balls and Waterfalls". Episode 117: Year in Review (2010)

2010-12-31
Length: 32s

I wanted to talk about a bit of what's been going on in my life.  Lots of new, interesting and exciting things taking place.  I also wanted to take some time and do the very last look at the news and politics for the show.  This is an arena I won't likely be covering again in the future.  There are many other podcasts that do this, and quite a few of them do it far better than I do.  I also discuss some of the changes (these are MINOR things folks -- nothing huge changing, other than the dropping of the news/politics segment) taking place in the podcast.  I also set the next two show topics:  (1) Keeping My Beliefs From Becoming a Mechanical Process and (2) Life as a Series of Poetic Moments.  Lastly, I wanted to thank all of you who have listened to the show over the past five (nearly!) years.  I do appreciate all the time that you've spent listening to me and all the comments you've given me.  I look forward to continuing on with the show for another five-plus years...or more.  :)

Episode 116: The Magick of the Spoken Word

2010-11-06
Length: 47s

Lots going on in today's podcast!  I talk a bit about my perspective on politics - particularly the high-school popularity contest we call the American Election process.  Thanks to Renny over at "Shhh! There Are Pagans in Texas!", I debut the podcast's listener voice mail...thank you MiLady!  In response to her v-mail, I talk a bit about what I did for Samhain this year.  The topic for today's show is about the power of the Spoken Word, with some emphasis on Fiona Davidson, Ronald Hutton and Philip Carr-Gomm..  Speaking of the Spoken Word - I bring back the Spoken Word segment, with my own piece of poetry - "Of Cotton-balls and Waterfalls".  Musical piece for the show is Spiral Dance with their song "Ride the Wind".

Episode 113: Pass the BBQ Sauce Please!

2010-09-15
Length: 33s

Well, I get to eat a little crow on this episode on the topic of Pagan Leadership.  This came about from a discussion that I was having with John Beckett and David Pollard (CUUPS Podcast) at the North Texas Pagan Pride Day on the aspect of Pagan community and Leadership.  So, since I'm chewing down some cooked crow, I figured I'd ask for some BBQ sauce to help it go down.  :)  Plus, I discuss a bit of the fun at the event, where I got to hang out with the aforementioned individuals, as well as Ren and Rose from Shhh! There Are Pagans in Texas! podcast.  And believe me folks...these two ladies are a lot of fun in their show, and in person!  I haven't laughed and cut-up that much in several months!  We'll be back to the regular format, complete with music, spoken word segments, and listener feedback with Episode 114.  B*B  --Tommy

Episode 112: Going Forward on Pagan Leadership

2010-08-26
Length: 46s

With the recent passing of Isaac Bonewits, I thought it would be an appropriate time to explore a listener question that has been in the Email queue for close to seven weeks:  "What do you think of the aging (and passing on) of the current Pagan leadership?"  The question has always been one I have been reticent to tackle, especially since I don't view myself as being any form of "leader" within the community - despite the commentary I've gotten from listeners over the last four-and-a-half years.  This podcast addresses some of my reluctance to view myself in that particular light, and some of my own perspective on the direction I think that can be applied to Pagan Leadership going forward.  Email:  elfster@gmail.com  Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/From-the-Edge-of-the-Circle/116817775667

Episode 110: Thoughts on the Concepts of Community

2010-07-28
Length: 34s

Let's talk about community again -- except let's widen it out to a larger perspective.  Inspired by some of the commentary in DruidCast Episode 40, I thought I would take a step back to the beginnings of this podcast and explore some of the conceptual aspects of community.  Also for those of you in or near the DFW area, remember that the North Texas Pagan Pride Day is coming up (www.dfwppd.org) - and I plan to be there in whatever capacity...as a volunteer or just as a guest roaming around.  Looking forward to seeing a lot of other folks out there in the heat on 9/11/2010.

mp4 Format Issues

2009-03-22

Hi ya'll.  VG Lovecraft pointed out that the show had a ton of sound issues in the mp4 format.  So I removed that file and am currently recompiling into an mp3 format from the original mix.  Sorry about the quality in the mp4 format.  Obviously...that's not quite ready for primetime as I thought it was.  I should have the remixed mp3 format up in about 30 minutes.  Again, my apologies for not qc-ing the show better on that mix.

Temporary Hiatus

2008-05-22

hey ya'll.  I apologize for not having a podcast out over the last few weeks.  Blame it on my poor time management and assesment skills.  I'm a bit overloaded with the assignment schedule for my first class in my Doctoral program.  The schedule called for eight papers and two tests over thrity days.  So, here I am with nine days left in class, three papers and one exam left to finish.  Couple that with a busy work schedule, and my time is really crunched right now.  The next two classes (also both thirty days in length) promise to have just as hectic a schedule.  After that, my classes become ninety days in length, and things should return back to normal.  So my apologies for not having anything out -- and I will most likely have very little time to get anything out during the next two months.  Sorry to say, but my class work comes first...

In the meantime, please remember that there are a lot of other great podcasts out there that continue to put out excellent shows:  The Secrets in Plain Sight!, The Wigglian Way, The Broom Closet, A Pagan Heart in Maine, Pagan Living, Geek Witch, The Modern Musings of a Cultured Barbarian, Mid-Michigan Pagan Podcast, and several others.

Hope ya'll will still be here when I get back!

Hugs,

TommyElf
