Micks Jazz Beat Cafe featuring: Fats Navarro / the best of....

2015-07-01

Theodore "Fats" Navarro (September 24, 1923 – July 7, 1950 was an American jazz trumpet player. He was a pioneer of the bebop style of jazz improvisation in the 1940s. He had a strong stylistic influence on many other players, most notably Clifford Brown. Navarro played in the Andy Kirk, Billy Eckstine, Benny Goodman, and Lionel Hampton big bands, and participated in small group recording sessions with Kenny Clarke, Tadd Dameron, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Coleman Hawkins, Illinois Jacquet, Howard McGhee, and Bud Powell. In Charles Mingus's somewhat counter-factual autobiography Beneath the Underdog, Navarro and Mingus strike up a deep friendship while touring together. 1 Nostalgia 2:45 2 Our Delight 2:59 3 Air Mail Special 3:32 4 Yardbird Suite 2:34 5 Stealin' Apples 3:07 6 Wail 3:04 7 Dance of the Infidels 2:48 8 Webb City 5:36 9 52nd Street Theme 2:54 10 Jivin' With Jack The Bell Boy 2:51 11 Calling Dr. Jazz 2:49 12 Dizzy Atmosphere 6:54 13 A Bebop Carol 2:58 14 Boppin' a Riff 5:30 15 Gone with the Wind 3:11 16 Sweet Georgia Brown 7:22 17 The Skunk 3:00 18 Symphonette 3:07 19 Eb Pob 2:23 20 Anthropology 3:43 21 The Tadd Walk 2:54 22 Good Bait (No.2) 4:55 23 As Time Goes By 3:00 24 Fats Blows 2:50 25 Hollerin' and Screamin' 2:43 26 Dameronia 5:17 27 Bebop Romp 2:33 28 Jumpin' Jane 3:08 29 Move 2:44 30 Oo-Bop Sh'bam 3:07 31 Second Balcony Jump 2:58 32 Double Talk 5:35 33 Fat Girl 2:20 34 Night In Tunisia 5:36 35 Sid'S Delight 2:54 36 Lady Bird 2:53 37 Good Bait (No.1) 5:49 38 Bean And The Boys 2:41 39 Lady Be Good 3:06 40 Goin' to Mintons 2:24…

Micks Jazz Beat Cafe featuring: Miles Davis Compulation

2015-06-19

Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was, together with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. In 2006, Davis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which recognized him as "one of the key figures in the history of jazz". In 2008, his 1959 album Kind of Blue received its fourth platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for shipments of at least four million copies in the United States. On December 15, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a symbolic resolution recognizing and commemorating the album Kind of Blue on its 50th anniversary, "honoring the masterpiece and reaffirming jazz as a national treasure". Micks Jazz Beat Cafe featuring: The Definitive Clifford Brown

2015-06-02

Clifford Brown (October 30, 1930 – June 26, 1956), aka "Brownie", was an American jazz trumpeter. He died at the age of 25 in a car accident, leaving behind only four years' worth of recordings. Nonetheless, he had a considerable influence on later jazz trumpet players, including Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Booker Little, and Freddie Hubbard.[citation needed] He was also a composer of note: two of his compositions, "Joy Spring" and "Daahoud", have become jazz standards. Brown won the Down Beat critics' poll for the "New Star of the Year" in 1954; he was inducted into the Down Beat "Jazz Hall of Fame" in 1972 in the critics' poll. Charles Parker, Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), also known as "Yardbird" and "Bird", was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique and improvisation. Parker introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas including rapid passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. His tone ranged from clean and penetrating to sweet and somber. Many Parker recordings inserted his virtuoso playing style and complex melodic lines, sometimes combining jazz with other musical genres, including blues, Latin and classical. 1. The Miles Davis Quintet was an American jazz band from 1955 to early 1969 led by Miles Davis. The quintet underwent frequent personnel changes toward its metamorphosis into a different ensemble in 1969. Most references pertain to two distinct and relatively stable bands: the First Great Quintet from 1955 to 1958; and the Second Great Quintet from late 1964 to early 1969, Davis being the only constant throughout. 1 If I Were a Bell (Remastered, Live) (Remastered, Live) 16:44 2 Fran-Dance (Remastered, Live) (Remastered, Live) 7:42 y 3 So What (Remastered, Live) (Remastered, Live) 15:27 All Blues (Remastered, Live) (Remastered, Live) 17:06 5 The Theme (Remastered, Live) (Remastered, Live) 0:55 6 Four (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) 4:51 7 Bye Bye Blackbird (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) 6:52 8 Walkin' (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) 6:32 9 Two Bass Hit (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) (Remastered, Live in New York, 1958) 0:48 1 Bye Bye Blackbird - Part 1 6:10 2 Scrapple From the Apple 2:54 3 It Never Entered My Mind 6:33 4 Dexterity 3:04 Embraceable You 3:23 6 Little Willie Leaps 2:54 7 Milestones 2:38 8 The Way You Look Tonight 2:50 9 A Night in Tunisia 2:57 10 How Deep Is the Ocean…

PINK FLOYD / ECHOS

2015-03-26

"Echoes" is a song by Pink Floyd including lengthy instrumental passages, sound effects, and musical improvisation. Written in 1970 by all four members of the group (credited as Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Nick Mason, David Gilmour on the original release), "Echoes" provides the extended finale to Pink Floyd's album Meddle. The track has a running time of 23:31 and takes up the entire second side of the vinyl recording. It also appears in shortened form as the fifth track on the compilation album which took its name, Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd. "Echoes" is the third-longest song in Pink Floyd's catalogue, after "Atom Heart Mother" (23:44) and the combined segments of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (26:01). Unlike those pieces, it is not explicitly divided into separate parts; however, the composition was originally assembled from separate fragments, and was later split in two parts to serve as both the opening and closing numbers in the band's film Live at Pompeii. The first part was used to open the band's 1987-90 A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour. THE RAMONES

2015-03-26

formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound. Despite achieving only limited commercial success, the band was a major influence on the 1970s punk movement in both the United States and United Kingdom. All of the band members adopted pseudonyms ending with the surname "Ramone", although none of them were related. They performed 2,263 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years. In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played a farewell concert and disbanded. By 2014, all of the band's original four members—lead singer Joey Ramone (1951–2001), guitarist Johnny Ramone (1948–2004), bassist Dee Dee Ramone (1951–2002) and drummer Tommy Ramone (1949–2014)—had died. Recognition of the band's importance built over the years, and they are now mentioned in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as the Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time"[8] and VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock".[9] In 2002, the Ramones were ranked the second-greatest band of all time by Spin magazine, trailing only the Beatles.[10] On March 18, 2002, the original four members and Tommy's replacement on drums, Marky Ramone, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2011, the group was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Past members Dee Dee Ramone Joey Ramone Johnny Ramone Tommy Ramone Marky Ramone Richie Ramone Elvis Ramone C. J. Ramone…

Metal Church is the self-titled debut album of the heavy metal band of the same name. Released in 1984 (and again in 1985), this album and its successor are considered metal classics. It was originally released independently by Ground Zero. Based on the success of the album, the band was signed to a recording contract by Elektra, who immediately reissued it. The cover art depicts a cruciform Gibson Explorer hidden in shadows and smoke. Some of their most notable songs are the opener, "Beyond The Black"; their title track; the instrumental "Merciless Onslaught"; "Gods Of Wrath" (which is different from all the other songs, as it had clean vocals, clean rhythms, and fluent solos); and the Deep Purple cover "Highway Star". 1. Hatriot - "Heroes Of Origin / ICED EARTH / LIVE IN ATHENS

2013-03-25
Length: 3h 25m 14s

“Heroes of Origin” is thrash metal as fans expect from an album barring the distinct vocals of Souza. His voice appears to have lost little of the venom that he first showed on “Pleasures of the Flesh” back in the late ‘80s.
