Special Promotion Episode - Leaders and Lattes Business Event

2012-05-16 :: Ludwina Dautovic

By now you've probably noticed that I've stopped running women's business networking events. I decided early this year to take a break from hosting them and then I realised that it was time to let it go. We all have those moments in business where it's time to look at your business model, what's working, what's not and perhaps what has become stale to you. I no longer was enjoying the events and realised it was time to let it go. There were other women coming up in the ranks with fresh new ideas and the energy to put into it. One such woman is Julie Hyde the host of a fresh, new event in Melbourne called Leaders and Lattes. I was invited as her guest to the launch event last week where there were 95 women attending; quite a turn out! Her guest speaker was Melanie Summer from Flash Fotos whom we have had as a guest on Red Tent Radio in the past. That's her and I in the picture. It was lovely to see her again and will be staying in touch. If you're looking for a new home to networking in, with an intelligent approach and warm environment, then get along to her next event. I will definitely be there and if you happen to live in the western suburbs of Melbourne, come past and pick me up! Ciao, Ludwina Dautovic xxx PS - Have a listen to the audio I recorded or watch the video to get some more information.…

#50 Red Tent Radio featuring Ludwina Dautovic with Tania Usher

Ludwina Dautovic is the Founder of The Red Tent Woman. She is an accredited Master Business Coach (The highest form of coaching accreditation in Australia), has won many business and coaching awards and has been listed consecutively for the last three years in the Who's Who of Australia for business women. But many of you reading this probably know her best as the host of Red Tent Radio. For episode 50 she is sitting in the hot seat for the second time on the show to answer some question from the listeners. Without giving everything away, here is a short synopsis of what Ludwina Discusses with Tania Usher in this episode. Make sure to have a listen to get everything. Tania Usher | Red Tent Radio | Dare Magazine Ludwina explains how she has successfully juggled home schooling with working from home for herself for over 20 years. First and foremost, homeschooling is not what a lot of people perceive it to be. Secondly, the style of homeschooling she and her husband used was conducive to her working from home as well. She then goes on to explain how she took one of her jobs from a hobby to a business. Without any proper training in television, Ludwina was able to gather a crew and create a pilot episode of a television show that was picked up by Optus Vision. She then figured out how to take a great niche that needed to be filled in schools and filled it with a program for students. Then we find out the true reason behind what gave Ludwina the idea that she should pursue being a business coach. We also get the 'secret' behind where the name "The Red Tent Woman" came from and what the Red Tent actually is. It's a very interesting story. See if you guessed the story behind the name correctly. A few more questions That Ludwina answers: How do you get the guests for your show? Is that the hardest part of doing Red Tent Radio? What was the journey like when you found out you had kidney cancer? How were you able to juggle the cancer, your business and parenting all at the same time? #49 Red Tent Radio featuring Katherine Brown and Dale Bourke

2012-03-29 :: Ludwina Dautovic
Length: 1s

Katherine Brown has wine flowing in her veins. Wait a minute. That doesn't sound right. She doesn't literally, but her Grandfather founded Brown Brothers; a wine business in Melbourne, Australia. Her family members now carry on the tradition as purveyors of wine through the well established company. Founded several generations ago, Brown Brothers is still a top level business and Ludwina was curious how the dynamics of "family" came in to play. Were there internal family issues or did the family bond make the business stronger? Were they treated differently than the non-family employees and how was the hiring process for the relatives? The interview is full of a lot of insight into not only how family business succeeds, but also how they innovate, some insight into their marketing and different aspects that are unique to a vintner business. Katherine is not just one of the pretty faces of the company. She is also very smart and has a passion for what she does. She has a Degree in Entrepreneurship from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and is versed in marketing, brand management and sales. She was recently named one of the 15 future wine industry leaders and was also accepted into the Australian Wine Industry Future Leaders program. Here are a few of the questions that we get to learn the answers to in the interview: - Your family business has been producing top quality wine for over 122 years. How do you keep the company smart, sexy and on top of the world? - Do you find it difficult to innovate for a company that has been around for so long? - When introducing new wines that Australians aren’t familiar with, how do you get them noticed and discovered? Do you have any special marketing techniques you use? - What is it like being a part of a family business? Does it have its pros, cons or both? - Do family dynamics ever get in the way of business and, if so, how does the company deal with that?…

#48 Red Tent Radio featuring John Curtin and Lyn Lucas

2012-03-23 :: Ludwina Dautovic
Length: 1s

John Curtin started his entrepreneurial career very early. At the age of 15 he started organizing events for his underage peers in Melbourne, Australia and even handled the promotion and sales for the events. This penchant for organizing led him to realize he had a passion for hospitality management and by the age of 25 he had opened his own establishment called Room with a group of friends. After gaining exposure to many other facets of business involved in that venture, he took his experience and knowledge and parlayed that into consulting for the industry. Now he runs the marketing, publicity, social media and merchandise for event company TotemOneLove Group that goes back to the roots of where he started as a 15 year old organizing events. This time around he uses innovation and tools such as social media to ensure the company's success. Throughout his career, john has learned many things about innovation. He says you don't have to have money to be innovative. Innovation starts in your mind. He tries to stay ahead of the crowd by surrounding himself with people who are themselves on the cutting edge and on the cusp of trends. John likes to use aggregation programs like Pulse for smartphones (search for Pulse in your smartphone's app store). They take a lot of information from a myriad of sources and condense it all down into snippets that can be perused much quicker. Google Alerts is also another great tool for that (alerts.google.com). John also believes that to get ahead, you shouldn't do things that you aren't good at or don't enjoy. As Ludwina has even mirrored in the past - delegate the things that you don't want to do to other people. Social media plays a big part in TotemOneLove and it is these social networks that are now starting to hold businesses accountable. When people have a complaint or issue these days, they don't normally send off an email to the company anymore; they send out a tweet or make a Facebook post describing their dissatisfaction. Another thing John notes is the importance of fine tuning your website for the mobile user. He says currently one in four people who visit their sites are using their mobile devices to access information. Ludwina and John talk about sponsorships. Make sure the brands you associate with reflect what your comapny stands for. Try to be innovative with your business connections, always having a core database at the ready. And, sometimes sponshorship is best handled by a third party. Just make sure they also strive to make connections for you that reflect your business. Be innovative with bad press. John tells the story about one of the events they held where a security gaurd they had hired mistakenly confiscated suntan lotion from event goers due to a miscommunication about "no liquids allowed" at the event. The media got wind of it but TotemOneLove quickly sprung on it and joined forces with one of the cancer awareness groups and ended up turning a bad flap into a big win. And finally, remember that while being innovative, try to maintain doing what you're currently doing VERY well at before moving on to start something new. In other words, try to innovate with what already works if you can.…

#47 Red Tent Radio featuring James Schramko and Hazel Theocharous

2012-03-22 :: Ludwina Dautovic
Length: 1s

James Schramko appreciates the little things in life. I’ve never actually heard him say that, but it is pretty evident in the life choices he has made. Working from home and for himself now allows James to see more of his family and even take his daughter to her horse riding sessions. But he wasn’t always his own boss. James used to work for Mercedes managing dealerships. It was there that he was so successful in the internet marketing world, he realized he should be using his talents to make money for himself. It wasn’t easy. He had to wean himself off of his “regular” day job. But after he got to the point where his bring-home pay from his own business met, and then exceeded, his take-home salary, James left Mercedes behind and has only looked forward since. His business ventures bring in over one millions dollars a year and he is always looking to see what he can add to that income flow and how he can utilise internet marketing techniques to make them flourish. James reveals about how he knows whether or not there is a market for a new product. Will it sell or will it be a flop? James also talks about outsourcing part of his work flow (a favorite topic of Ludwina’s) and how he manages to answer most of his own emails. That’s not to say he doesn’t have the staff to do that for him, it’s just that he provides the direct line for people to contact him if they deem it necessary. He believes that this sets him apart from his competition and we couldn’t agree more. He also notes how important it is to be personable. How true. I don’t know about you, but I never return to businesses I don’t feel a connection to unless I have no other choice. Over deliver to your customers and they will never forget you, he says. One innovative way that James shares how he drummed up business was through the active participation in internet forums. Forums are interactive places on the internet where people can convene to ask, answer and discuss an endless variety of topics, likes, hobbies and interests. If it can be talked about, there is a forum somewhere for it. Find out what he did. And no, he didn’t just get on there and post his web address everywhere. Those kinds of posters only get ignored and shunned. He knows his internet marketing. He did it the right way and it paid off big time. Also, find out how James determines what to price a product and how he uses the long term versus short term approach when deciding that. Yet another great internet marketing tip. Catch them all in the episode.…

#46 Red Tent Radio featuring Tania Usher and Michelle Wright

2012-03-01 :: Ludwina Dautovic

Ludwina Dautovic’s featured guest on the show this week is Tania Usher. Tania is the publisher of Dare magazine, a digital, online publication on caliber with some of the most sophisticated glossy media in print. It's fresh, eye-popping and begs the reader to Dare to... fill in the blank. Tania returned to Australia several years ago to give birth to her son Tate. As fate would have it, Tate passed away right after he was born. Tania, now feeling like a childless mother, wasn't sure how to cope with the situation. She went back to the corporate world and 13 months later, she was pregnant again. Following the birth of a healthy child, Tania decided that she didn't want to go back into the corporate world and juggle being a mom all at the same time. She wanted to be there for all of the 'Kodak moments' and events with her child. She heard about the internet and thought she could do something that would allow her to spend more time being a mom while still working and making a living. So she ventured out on her own. To make a longer story much shorter, after spending a significant amount of time teaching other people how to produce things, Tania decided that it was her turn to actually do some of the producing. She spent some time cultivating her ideas until she knew exactly what her "brand" was going to be about. She founded the online magazine 'Dare' and has since created a community of loyal followers and readers. Have a listen to the episode to learn why Tania says being authentic and opening your heart were keys to her success. Find out how being bold and just "doing it" can get you things beyond your biggest dreams. Everybody loves to talk about themselves. See how Tania uses that to her advantage in business. There's a lot more to the interview, like how she manages her staff and their workflow, to how, when and how long to ponder things before you take action on them (I'll give you a hint... it's between five seconds ago and five seconds from now).…

Special Episode - 'Face to Face' cast and crew interviews

2011-09-08 :: Ludwina Dautovic

I recently had the opportunity to attend a special screening of an independent Australia Feature Film called Face to Face that will be released to the general public on 8th September. We're giving you an exclusive look into behind the scenes of this multi award winning Australian feature film. In this special episode Ludwina Dautovic talks to three of the lead actors Vince Colosimo, Sigrid Thornton and Robert Rabiah, the director Michael Rymer, the producers Leanne Hanley and Gabrielle Christopher and one of the camera operators Jordan Dautovic. How you can help promote 'Face to Face' Can you please help to spread the word about Face to Face. It's an incredible film that shows the power of restorative justice. If you tweet please use the @face2facemovie. Face to Face also has a business page on Facebook. Can you please 'like' it and tag it in your posts. And in next week's episode of Red Tent Radio, you'll get to listen to a feature length interview with the director of Face to Face - Michael Rymer. Enjoy! Ludwina Dautovic Host of Red Tent Radio PS - If you'd like to listen to past and future episodes of Red Tent Radio go to: The Podcast Download Page and leave your details. You will then be notified each week when a new episode has been uploaded. Face to Face From Australia’s most acclaimed playwright, David Williamson, a moving and powerful new film about lies, betrayal, sex and bullying in the workplace. A young construction worker rams into the back of his boss’s Jaguar in a fit of anger at being sacked. Rather than fronting court, he’s given the chance to explain his actions in a community conference. This face-to-face confrontation between the young man, his boss, his boss's wife, co-workers, best mate and mother lifts the lid not only on his dysfunctional life but also on their workplace dirty laundry, turning all of their lives upside down. Face To Face stars a stellar ensemble cast led by Vince Colosimo, Sigrid Thornton and Luke Ford and is directed by Michael Rymer (Angel Baby). DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT - Michael Rymer Be warned, this is a little movie, with big ideas. With all the strife in the world, human nature being what it is, and history not really offering any positive examples, I’ve often wondered if there’s any way out. When I see the terrible violence that’s inflicted on one generation against their enemies, ensuring the next generation will dish out the same in kind. I just look at neighbours and work colleagues and wonder, “If we can’t get past these smaller grudges and animosities, what hope do we have for the bigger ones?” I came upon this when an old friend was trying to explain this revolutionary work he was doing – he then emailed me a copy of a play that David Williamson had written on this very material. When I read the play, I laughed, I cried – I couldn’t believe that I could ever care so much about such an ordinary scenario. I said to my friend “This is really amazing, but the ending’s a bit hard to believe. There’s no way these things work out so... completely.” My friend responded, “Actually, they almost always do. And if not so completely, at least the individuals take away some new personal skills and understanding”. “But if this really works, then you’ve cracked the way to solve global conflicts.” My friend shrugged humbly, “That’s what we’re hoping, yes.” Here is a system that actually works. By systematically exposing each person to one other and forcing them to see the consequences and effects of their actions, the characters are able to transcend their own subjective view, and understand that they are part of a “tribe” where everyone’s actions affect everyone else. I grew up watching David Williamson movies, Don’s Party, The Club, Traveling North, Gallipoli, Emerald City, and this particular play, Face to Face , I believe, is one of his best. Using real cases, David somehow transmuted this wonderfully raw, real material into an almost perfectly structured play that unfolds with enough twists, reversals, and surprises to fill three movies. He has created a gallery of characters that are so real, so recognisable, yet never stereotypical or pat. The paradigm for a picture like this is Twelve Angry Men : a film I first saw in high school. Twelve guys in a room, but with some great, great acting and blocking, you never feel claustrophobic, because you’re seeing a great story unfold, well told. We’ve opened up the play, with flashbacks to the key events – but we want to keep the focus on what’s happening psychologically. But I’ve resisted going too far, because I want to preserve the pressure-cooker intensity necessary for these characters to open up. This is a film that demands the camera go from face to face – the landscapes of this film are the actor’s faces – the special effects are the emotions rippling across their eyes and mouths. Not all films have to be the same – there’s room for very visual films and there’s room for films like this. If I do my job right, no one will even notice. The people who showed up for Kenny and The Castle will come to see an Australian film about authentic Australians. In the international market, I see round the festivals, markets and art houses, that there’s an increasing appetite for stories that don’t rely on sensationalism, prurient excesses and gimmicks. But our real hope for this film is that, like Twelve Angry Men , Face to Face will have a long life in Law Schools, Civics Classes, high schools and community centres around the world. And who knows? Maybe a small movie can change big things.…
