Episode 54: Mister Rogers Neighborhood

2015-07-17 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast
Length: 1s

BitMonster co-founder Demond Rogers joins us this week all the way from Raleigh, NC! We applaud him and his game GRAV (you should totally check it out). The panel gets a bit somber as we honor Satoru Iwata with a proper send off but from there it's back to business as usual. We draw some correlations to a new game called The Flock and it's unique ideas in the multiplayer space. We take a look at some of the leaked trailers out of Comic Con, the New Horizons probe and it's ties to the gaming world and the apparently rampant use of Adderall in professional esports. We round it all out with a few final items and wash it all down with some cold beer, 'natch. This weeks panel: Joe Erskine, Joe Arroyo, Nikk Golesh, Chris Morris & Demond Rogers Topics on this episode: -The Flock is looking to change the way we think about and play multiplayer games. -Comic Con has come and gone this year, we’ll take a look at the DC, WOW, Deadpool and SW stuff specifically. -Hey guys remember Pluto? It used to be a planet. The New Horizons probe made its flyby this week as well. Apparently it used a Playstation CPU to do it. -Counter-Strike players are admitting to using Adderall during pro matches. Hope they like peeing in cups... …

Episode 53: CODBLOPS

2015-07-10 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast
Length: 1s

We cover a ton this week! Including a few matters of old business in which we address a fan question and make some corrections. We get the convo rolling with a look at the recent Lizard Squad news, the impending USA/JAPAN mech duel, and we ask 'what if' in terms of the unearthed Nintendo Playstation. We also take a look at a school in China that gave a LOT of money to the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter and we make mention of the dudes behind the Lego movie and their upcoming foray into the Star Wars universe. Finally, we try to make sense of the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (CODBLOPS, get it?) Collectors Edition and Joe E calls Ron Perlman 'Ape-Face' in a totally respectful way. Rants abound! Check it out! This weeks panel: Joe Erskine, Joe Arroyo, Nikk Golesh & Chris Morris Topics on this episode: a Lizard Squad member has been found guilty of almost 51k counts of fraud and harrassment via various “computer crimes.” Guess what? He’s not going to jail. People are pissed. USA has challenged JAPAN to a mech duel. Japan has accepted. Two giant robots, going all rock em sock em on eachother. Say hello to the future. Nintendo Playstation was almost a thing (yes you heard me right) and someone found one. A school for underprivileged kids in China has given $20k to the Shenmue 3 kickstarter. This is either the best publicity stunt ever for a poor school or the absolute worst misapproppriation of funds in the history of said school. The dudes responsible for the Lego Movie? Yeah they’re taking their talents to a galaxy far, far away. The new CODBLOPs Collectors Edition comes with a fridge. No joke. …

It gets delightfully weird. Please subscribe on iTunes, and tell a friend! Guests Joe Erskine – @JoeyKansas0125 Joe Arroyo – @joeyarroyo Nikk Golesh…

Episode 18: I Am Your Density

2015-02-27 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast

Yeah.. we shoe-horned that pun didn’t we? Destiny is out! We talk about it and attempt to give it the benefit of the doubt. Joe talks a bit about the amazing local co-op of the console port for Diablo 3, and we turn a brief PAX recap into a conversation about the games we’re looking forward to most (Hint: Evolve, Civ: Beyond Earth, The Evil Within, some Indie MegaBooth stuff). The lightning round on this episode is pretty prolific and ranges from Will Farrell’s hatred for cancer, net neutrality to the CEO of Oculus VR donating a ton of money to the University of Maryland. Also Nate manages to only mildly offend everybody, so maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt too… Please subscribe on iTunes, and tell all your friends! 2015-02-27 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast
Length: 1s

New stuff this week! The boys take a new Ten Words or Less segment out for a spin to describe games they haven’t played yet. Joe Erskine was out this week, so Joe Arroyo takes over the host-throne. As per usual however, it’s mostly a bunch of dudes jawing about video games (amongst other things). This week focuses on the new Blizzard policy that allows players to reclaim deleted characters in WoW. Then it’s all about Steam’s new curation feature. And no topical video game show worth it’s salt could pass up a little pow-wow on Destiny’s Loot Cave issue. The lightning round ensues and it’s… crazemazing. Yeah, I said it. Woo! Two episodes in a week, you ask? It’s like Christmas! On this episode, we welcome Samir Patel to help us make sense of the week in video game news. For topics, we take a look at Microsoft’s Project Spark, the new indie title from some former Bioshock devs (The Black Glove) and we wildly speculate about the rumor that Unity is/will/might be up for sale. We have a bunch of fun table top role-playing a real life scenario in our new segment “Random Encounter” and then it’s off to our usual lightning round where we quickly shine a light on stuff like the new Myst TV show, EA Tiburon’s internal game jam, and the amazing awkwardness of Hatsune Miku debuting on American television. The entire episode is soaked in beer, cider, d20s and a metric ton of laughter. As always, this rounds on us, so enjoy!…

Length: 1s

This week we welcome our friend Michael Chambers into the fold to help us make sense of the super-disturbing “Hatred” trailer (we’re not linking to it), as well as kick off ANOTHER new segment in which we bastardize the old Password game-show. It gets hilarious. From there we revisit Kim Kardashian’s influence on mobile gaming and the on-coming rogue wave of celebrity based games (hint: Avenged Sevenfolds new mobile game “Hail to The King: Deathbat”). The lightning round allows us to check-in regarding the “Unity For Sale” rumors (spoiler: it’s not), some awesome charity stuff with gaming, and the opening of a new eSports bar in London. The room we recorded this in was 140 bazillion degrees, so if your speakers start to sweat, send a reimbursement claim to Chris Morris, @Azereki. Enjoy!…

2015-02-27 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast

This week, Garrett Woodford is in the hot seat to help us dissect last weeks Microsoft keynote on everything Windows 10. He’s gonna be working there (again) so we try not to cost him his job by violating any NDA he may have signed. We also take the time to speculate on the new Ghostbusters cast, Madden 15’s Super Bowl predictions, and a $130k PS4 (for charity!). Garrett reminds us about Plague Inc and their communities’ generous nature. To wrap it all up, we ponder World of Warcraft’s update that allows players to take… selfies? Duckface FTW!…

2015-02-27 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast

Kanye thinks Beyonce is a better choice. Obviously. This week on the show we try to wrap our heads around Netflix’s Legend of Zelda TV show rumor. After that, things get serious. We dissect Brian Crecente’s video game accessibility article and follow it up with a discussion about gamifying education. We take a few quick moments to give a shout out to our friends at the Good Mood Creators (and their mention in Game Informer) and why we think cyborg dating isn’t exactly as advertised. To bookend the episode we lament the pending retirement of Jon Stewart and Joe Erskine came prepared (for once). Episode 34: Molydeuxs And Don'ts

2015-02-27 :: The Cheat Codes Podcast

What starts as an innocent Dr. Seuss homage segues into a larger, unplanned allegory about context. We make mention of the new iTunes “Pay Once & Play” feature, and subsequently turn our attention to Jon Ronson’s New York Times article that revisits the Justine Sacco/Twitter debacle (note: we come dangerously close to falling into the same trap). From there we attempt to weigh both sides of the recent and not-so-recent Peter Molyneux controversy. To round out the episode, we highlight the Video Game Hall of Fame and try to end the discussion on the Valve/Paranautical Activity saga. Stephen Dinehart wants designers to stand up against employment tests that exploit unpaid candidates. We talk about that too.
