2013-04-24
Length: 1s

The guest this episode is makeup fx artist Toby Sells. This one has been a long time in the making. The interview was conducted in early 2012 before the creation of The Picking Brains Podcast. It was to be posted on a site that I used to write for but it was never put out. This interview is what sparked the Picking Brains Podcast and began the entire series on fx artists. Due to some audio problems in the recording it has taken me some time to get the episode prepared. I'm just glad that it can now be heard by the masses. When Toby's not at work on one of the many projects filming in Atlanta he is hard at work in his FX shop.Toby began his professional career working under fx whiz Mark Shostrom on Phantasm 2 and has been off and running ever since. Opening his FX shop (Toby Sells FX Shop) in Atlanta in the year 2000 opened the doors even wider to a growing film environment in the city and enabled him to work on projects ranging from Dance Of The Dead to the recent ZombieLand series for Amazon. From speaking with Toby I can tell you he is never at a loss for words and is truly a fan of the genre and that speaks volumes.  Toby has also recently launched his own brand of alcohol activated makeup pallets and supplies. To go along with this he will be hosting FX workshops where people can attend, learn, and experience the FX makeup trade from him directly, this is something that is not to be missed. With all his current and future endeavors including his side work with FX giants KNB and Almost Human the future looks extremely bright for Toby and his crew.  Thanks again to Toby for his great insights into the industry and the time for the interview. Definately go check out Toby's work and give the ZombieLand series a chance I think it could really shine if given the chance.

The guest this episode is a special one. Michael much like Merle speaks his mind and gives some great insights into some of his great roles including a great story on his hair color for “Mallrats”. I can’t stress enough if you haven’t seen “Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer” go and buy the DVD and marvel at Mr. Rooker’s performance in this genre classic. Episode 13: Troy Foreman & James McLean: Bringing Back Frank Black!

2013-01-15
Length: 1s

This episode the guest's are Troy Foreman and James McLean. They are two of the driving forces behind the Back To Frank Black campaign and the recently released book of the same name. The legions of "Millenium" fans around the globe have banded together in support of this campaign and it is one of the few campaigns out there that I fully support. There are many websites and petitions out there for shows that were taken off the air. Many of them never pick up steam and just sit around with people lamenting on a message board. The Back To Frank Black campaign is different, with the full support of Lance Henriksen and many of the other main players from the series, The Back To Frank Black campaign continues to grow and hopefully will bring about the return of the characters that many grew to love. In addition to discussing Millenium we also discuss the pros and cons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the movie version), Short Circuit, Total Recall, and how carrying your condoms in a Millenium case can not only be a conversation starter but how you can use it to make friends in a gay bar (long story). Thanks again to Troy and James for the time and discussion.
