Ep 24 - Jurassic World

2015-06-30
Length: 1s

It's been 22 years since the original Jurassic Park hit cinemas and seeded a love for cinema in hosts Jon and Matt - now, with Spielberg long since leaving the Jurassic directing chair, newcomer Colin Trevorrow brings us Jurassic World, the fourth film in the Jurassic series.

Featuring a fully functional and successful park, and a new genetically modified dino, can Jurassic World breathe new life back into a series long thought extinct? Will the film tap into the guys' nostalgia and rekindle their love for this franchise? Or is Jurassic World a cynical cash-grab and just another step down into forgettable blockbuster territory that began in 2001 with Jurassic Park 3?

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the Jurassic World trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to discuss the feature itself.

Ep 23 - Tomorrowland

2015-06-13

Brad Bird seemingly can't put a foot wrong. He reinvigorated the superhero genre with The Incredibles, turned a talking rat into one of the most fun and sophisticated animated films ever made with Ratatouille, and he miraculously made the best of the Mission Impossible films with the 4th entry - Ghost Protocol.

Now finally Bird has been given his passion project. Disney has handed him full creative control and a ton of money to create Tomorrowland a mysterious sci-fi blockbuster. Will this be another home run for Bird? Or has his luck finally run out?

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the Tomorrowland trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to discuss the feature itself.

Uneducated in the lore of the Marvel comics, and unimpressed by many previous Marvel films, the boys dive in to Age of Ultron to find out if Joss Whedon's light touch can make this the entry in the series to finally win them over… Or if it will simply cause them to rage out, Hulk-style, and tear the film apart.

Ep 20 - Chappie

2015-04-30
Length: 42s

After a brief hiatus the PrePost Film Review is back! We're playing catch up on a couple of big movies that were released over the past month. First up is Neil Blomkamp's Chappie.

Marking the third feature in Blomkamp's unnofficial "Sci-Fi trilogy" Chappie has received extremley negative reviews from most critics. Can it really be that bad? Is it possible that District 9 is the only "good" film we're going to get from Blomkamp? Or is the negativity overblown?

Join Matt and Jon as they discuss the Chappie trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to discuss the feature itself.

Ep 19 - Jupiter Ascending

2015-03-25
Length: 53s

The latest feature effort from the Wachowski siblings - Jupiter Ascending - feels like it has some importance riding on it. The siblings, who struck gold with the Matrix, haven't been faring as well critically or commercially with their last few features (although we think Cloud Atlas was pretty good!)

With a fairly big budget and an original idea not based on a comic or a novel, Jupiter Ascending could potentially be a nice "comeback" for the Wachowskis.

This episode of the PrePost Film Review does contain more than our average amount of swearing - could this be because the film is outstanding? Or really quite bad? Listen to find out!

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the Jupiter Ascending trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to the studio to discuss the feature itself.

Ep 18 - Citizenfour

2015-03-06
Length: 41s

Citizenfour gives viewers an inside look into the highly tense and nerve wracking moments when Edward Snowden - former Systems Administrator at the CIA - decides to blow the whistle on some top secret stuff the US government is doing. The documentary literally shows us Snowden going from a 'nobody' to one of the most talked about people in the world.

There's no doubt it's an important documentary, but is it a good one?

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the Citizenfour trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to the studio to discuss the feature itself.

Ep 17 - American Sniper

2015-02-12
Length: 48s

At a glance, Clint Eastwood's latest film - American Sniper - seems like a solid war movie, ocassionally delving into heavy thematic material. But is this really the case?
The film seems to be splitting critics down the middle, with some praising its subtle, restrained look at a man devestated by war - while others dismiss it as a shallow, slightly troubling pro-war movie. Is any of this actually true? And, more importantly, does the brilliant trailer really reflect the movie!?

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the American Sniper trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to the studio to discuss the feature itself.

Ep 16 - Birdman

2015-02-01
Length: 48s

Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest film Birdman has managed to sweep the awards season so far - with many potential Oscar wins in sight. However, the movie seems to be splitting movie goers down the middle. Is it a satire of Hollywood? A love letter to the struggling artist? A dark comedy? Maybe it's nothing more than a big old pretentious mess?

Join Matt & Jon as they discuss the Birdman trailer. Later - after the film has been released - they return to the studio to discuss the feature itself.

We made a mistake.

2014-09-01

Hey listeners!

It has been brought to our attention that we inadvertently included a massive plot spoiler for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in our recent Snowpiercer episode.

This was a silly oversight on our behalf and we sincerely apologise to any listeners who feel we have damaged part of their potential Dawn of the Planet of the Apes viewing experience.

We are super sensitive to spoilers ourselves so understand that it would really suck having a big plot spoiler unexpectedly dropped on you like that. We’re sorry.

However the good news is we’ve edited the spoiler out! So the Snowpiercer episode that is online now is 100% Dawn of the Planet of the Apes spoiler free (just make sure you re-download the new file).

We see this as a great learning experience, a step forward in making the podcast even better and a reminder that just because we have seen a film, some listeners may have not.

Keep on listening and keep on sending in feedback. You guys are awesome.

Love Jon & Matt
